Selecting desk lamps for office and study
Compare desk lamps at the workstation, with each feature tied to a defined need.
Office, home-work and study desks differ in size, equipment and use. Choose a desk lamp around those conditions before comparing appearance, material or a list of additional functions.
Map the workstation
Record screens, documents, writing areas, seating and available daylight. Identify the lamp's intended coverage and the role of other room light. A shared desk also needs a clear starting setting and accessible controls for different users.
Use the reading and study guide when printed material or detailed reading is the main task.
Mounting and reach
Compare a surface base, clamp or other offered mounting arrangement with the actual furniture. Check available area, mounting dimensions, head clearance and cable route. Ask which movements the model supports.
Review adjustment using the reach and placement checklist. A flexible-looking arm is not confirmation of a particular movement range.
Light and brightness
Request output, colour and distribution information for the offered configuration. Try the sample with the screen and work material. Check reflections, visible light sources and adjustment from the normal seat.
Record useful settings instead of assuming maximum brightness is the right starting point. See brightness controls for range and restart checks.
Controls and extra features
Separate ordinary dimming, touch operation, sensors and connectivity. Confirm USB, clocks or other functions individually, including supplied accessories and operating restrictions. None should be assumed from a generic smart or multifunction label.
For touch operation, use the touch-control guide; for connectivity, use smart desk-lamp controls.
Sample approval
Keep the model reference, mounting method, finish, controls and documents with the approved sample. Ask for cleaning, service and replacement information. Approval of a task-lighting arrangement does not establish claims about health, learning or productivity.
Review current desk-lamp platforms and share the workstation brief.
